Passionflower Tea
One of the most clinically studied anxiolytic herbs — a gentle sedative from the Americas.
The Research Behind Passionflower
Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) has been used traditionally by Native American and Mexican healers for anxiety, insomnia, and nervousness. Modern clinical research has validated this traditional use — multiple randomized controlled trials show passionflower is as effective as benzodiazepines for generalized anxiety, without the sedation, dependency, or withdrawal risk.
A 2001 study in the Journal of Clinical Pharmacy and Therapeutics found passionflower significantly reduced anxiety scores in pre-operative patients. Another study showed it improved sleep quality without producing morning grogginess — a common complaint with sleep medications.
